Yachting has its own language, and when you are new to the industry, even an everyday conversation can come with a surprising number of unfamiliar words.
What is the difference between the bow and the stern? Which side is port? Passerelle??? What rank is the bosun, and what on earth is the crew mess?
At Clearvac Engineering Asia, we regularly welcome interns from a local college. We created this visual guide to help them learn the English terms for different types of yachts, areas onboard, directions, crew roles, and other essential language they hear during the workday.
We soon realised it could be useful to many more people. Whether you are starting your first job in the marine industry, studying a maritime subject, working around yachts or simply interested in them, the poster offers an easy way to learn the basics.
It is now available to download for free in A3, A2 and A1 sizes, ready to print for a yacht, office, workshop, college, classroom or home…
